Case Study: GPS Training for San Francisco Municipal Railway (MUNI)
The Client Profile NextBus Inc. is an Alameda, CA-based corporation that serves the public transportation industry. NextBus technology uses Global Positioning System (GPS) data and patented predictive software to track bus locations, providing passengers and transit managers with actual arrival times on the Internet and at bus stops.
The Business Problem Operators and dispatchers needed training to be able to use the online system effectively. Maintenance personnel also needed training on troubleshooting the signs and other equipment located on the buses and bus stops. NextBus needed to provide MUNI with comprehensive training in a flexible format to cater to the work schedule and union regulations for all personnel who required training.
The TechProse Solution A TechProse senior instructional designer developed technical training on how to use and maintain NextBus vehicle location systems. The trainer customized each set of materials to meet the specific installation's needs. The instructor delivered hands-on sessions at various locations. TechProse also developed instructional videos of the training to provide ongoing support to MUNI personnel.
