The Business Problem
Lucent offers a wide variety of networking hardware and software releases. Customers often had difficulty determining the proper software release for their specific model of hardware. Lucent wanted a way for customers to quickly select and apply the appropriate software release for their product, reducing customer support costs and increasing customer satisfaction.

The TechProse Solution
TechProse worked with Lucent to develop an intuitive web-based tool called E-sight. This web-based front end allows Lucent customers to select and download the appropriate software upgrade for their equipment by simply selecting their hardware model. The appropriate release is provided automatically based on their selection. In order to facilitate ongoing maintenance, TechProse designed a dynamic, database-driven architecture. Using a point and click front end, internal staff validate and upload appropriate software releases, and clients could download the right release for their product. The web site is secured behind a firewall and customers have password-protected access. As new updates to products are available, customers have access to the appropriate release based on their contract. For new features, customers can select appropriate software and pay online. On the back-end side, TechProse developed a similar point-and-click maintenance GUI for engineers to continue to update the site with new release information as appropriate.
